Ninja Self Defense Training – 4 Ways to Protect Yourself Against a Punch, Grab, Or Kick
In the world of self-defense and martial arts instruction, there are techniques that can be taught to literally do anything to your attacker. But how do you know which one to use in any given situation? Although it is impossible to explore every variable in the context of this article, what I can do is to offer you four basic strategies that encompass all of these mechanical techniques. This way, you can find those techniques within your own training that fit into each category. You can also take charge of your self defense training and what tactics you can beat and therefore add more options to your arsenal of techniques.
You’ll find that every martial art style or self-defense system gravitates towards one or maybe even two of these basic tactics. However, in the realm of real-world self-defense training, you don’t have the luxury of having “favorite” techniques or favorite ways of doing things.
While you may have techniques that you think your attacker can’t pull off, the truth is, unlike your training partners in class – he won’t let you get that technique on him!
To effectively apply any technique—like it or not—you must first neutralize the force of the initial punch, hold, or kick. If you can’t do that, quickly, easily and conveniently…
…no matter how powerful techniques you know!
So, here are four basic strategies for defending against an incoming punch, catch, or kick. Please note that these are just concepts. You must learn how to do these things effectively so that you can make the most impact without putting yourself in further danger.
In a self-defense situation against an aggressive attacker who is trying to punch, kick, or grab you – you can:
1) Hold your ground Or use natural, walking footwork to slip or “block” his oncoming limb. From this “commanding”, in-charge position, you can then employ the strategy of using strong points against the weak, crushing his attacks and driving him to the ground.
2) Pull your body back and away, using long-range, defensive angling, and punishing his incoming limbs with one of his strikes. From here, you can then crash with full body power, directing your attack at his weakest point.
3) Move quickly within the arc – in space – created by his attack. That way, you take the fight for him and attack his vulnerable targets the moment he is busy “missing” you.
4) Use turning, evasive, body shift Which avoids his attacking limb – allowing it to slip harmlessly away – and simultaneously puts you in a fanning position next to him where it’s much harder for him to catch you.
While most martial arts focus on one of these strategies, ninjutsu—the ninja’s self-defense training art—uses all three (and more!) If you want to be successful at anything, including defending yourself from aggression, you need as many options as possible. .
