Excel Tip – How To Easily Move A Pivot Table Or Pivot Chart

This article walks you through how to move pivot tables and charts around your current worksheet or to a new worksheet in Excel.

Once you’ve created your Pivot in Excel, you may decide to rearrange the dashboard or move it to a completely new worksheet, or to a different location within the same workbook, to enable you to add and delete columns or rows. It’s also sometimes easier to work on a separate sheet in Pivot then move it to where you want to put it when you’re done.

Manually selecting the pivot table by highlighting it with the mouse or keyboard is easier for smaller tables, but if it’s larger it’s easier to use the built-in ribbon command to do it for you. To use the built-in command –

  • Click anywhere on the pivot table you’ve already created

  • On the Options tab – in the Actions group – click Move Pivot Table

  • At this step the Move Pivot Table dialog box will be displayed

  • You now have the option to choose where you want to place your pivot table

  • Choose to move your table to a new worksheet by selecting New Worksheet – this will place your table in cell A1 in your new worksheet.

  • To move a table to the current worksheet, select an existing worksheet and type the first cell in the range of cells that you want your table to reside in.

  • You can collapse the dialog box and click the first cell in the range of cells where you want to start the table.

  • Boom! Your pivot table is now moved.

You can move the pivot chart really easily with the ribbon command.

  • Click anywhere on your chart

  • Pivot chart tools that should be defaults on the Design tab in Excel 2010

  • To the right of Chart Style is the Position and Move Chart option

  • The Move Chart dialog box will appear

  • Here is where you choose to move your chart

  • Select New Sheet if you want to move it to a brand new worksheet

  • Or select Move it as an object and use the drop down box to choose where to place your chart, your workbook will have a list of sheets.

  • Press OK to confirm

  • Job done!
