Link Popularity – How to Use Article Directory Statistics to Attract Inbound Links

Article marketing is one of the top strategies to use to develop yourself into an online authority in your target niche and attract inbound links and increase your link popularity. Each of the header directories provides users with statistical files that you can download as a CSV file and upload to Microsoft Excel to create a spreadsheet. This is a great way to find out which article category is attracting the most readers and the most URL clicks.

There are two caveats to using statistics from top article directories:

1) Make sure article directories include the dates they provide statistics.

2) Some numbers may not necessarily be accurate, although it can be assumed that its relativity (if one category of articles gets more clicks than another article, that category may be better at generating clicks than another) is constant, it cannot be assumed that the click counts Match yourself with your web stats or Aweber stats, if you use it as an autoresponder company.

3) For articles published before the statistical reports provided by the directory, I use publisher requests to proxy for relative clicks. By this I mean that if an article or article category gets more publisher requests than another, it can generally be assumed that that article or category has received more clicks than another article or category – but again, this is unrelated to actual traffic. Your site, because it is not a traffic figure, is rather a statistic that proxies for interest, and therefore will be related to relative traffic differences between articles and categories, but not traffic itself.

Again, you should increase submissions of articles that are in categories that get high clicks and cut down submissions of articles in categories that get less clicks. This strategy will help you develop as an online niche authority and help you attract inbound links and increase link popularity with top search engines.

There are many additional ways you can use this database of article information, although I will admit that I only use the two correlations above to improve my article writing numbers.

Here are some ideas on how to use statistics in your spreadsheet:

a) Sort articles by title length, title type (ie ‘how to’ vs ’10 steps’ vs ‘discover…’) and determine differences in performance of articles.

b) Sort articles by article length (this will require more work, since article length is not included in this data; it may be better to outsource this work) and determine differences in the performance of articles.

c) Sort articles by keywords. Again this will take a bit more work, as you will need to add a keyword column to your data before doing your research. Once again, I recommend outsourcing this work.

If you’re out to attract potential customers and develop your online presence and exposure, you owe it to yourself and your business’s financial future to learn everything there is to know about internet marketing.
